Big Daddy Jay's Skillet Seasoning Tutorial

I ordered a new skillet because, let’s face it, a twelve inch skillet is tough to cook in for an entire family. So I got the sixteen inch Bayou Classic and immediately fell in love with it. They have a twenty inch, but I would almost be afraid it’s too big for the inside of most ovens. So today, I am gonna show you how to properly season a new skillet. First start by setting your oven to 550 degrees. Evenly coat the skillet with lard and do your best to remove excess. The excess will run off the skillet in the oven or make spots. Put in the oven upside down for a hour. Allow to cool enough to handle and repeat the process. Once cool, you are ready to use. Don’t worry about spots, your first batch of bacon will get rid of ‘em, no problem.
