Big Daddy Jay's Country Style Green Beans
Here is a good southern side dish that will always be a classic. I like to make large batches of this stuff and either freeze it or can it. There is nothing really special about this recipe, it's just how grandma made it.
Ingredients
3 pounds snap green beans
2 tablespoons butter
2 pieces of bacon roughly chopped
1/2 yellow onion sliced
2 tablespoons minced garlic
32 oz chicken broth
Salt and pepper to taste
Cut tips off beans and cut into two inch pieces. Wash thoroughly when finished. In a preheated dutch oven, add butter and bacon. Slowly brown bacon over medium heat before adding sliced onions. Once the onions have started to caramelize, add the minced garlic. Give the mixture about 2-3 minutes before adding chicken broth, and salt and pepper to taste. I use about a teaspoon each. Cover and simmer for about 2 hours over medium low heat. Enjoy!
